Chris Botha (44), his wife Katryn (27) and their children live in the local township of Tambo Village, Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria. Poverty and the racist job reservation policies of the ‘African Nationalist’ regime of South Africa has made it impossible for whites to find employment. Chris and his family now lives among Sotho and Tswana people. Their children do not receive education in their mother-tongue, Afrikaans. There are no libraries, schools, community-halls or churches where they can congregate with other people of their own culture and maintain their cultural identity. 1. Stunning photographs , so poor and yet nearly every picture shows a person smoking a cigarette….

    • Hi, I’m glad you mentioned it.
It’s a fascinating phenomena that I’ve noticed in the black squater-camps too. It is as though the poor either don’t give a damn about their health, or it is as though they’re so desperate to prove that they’re still in control of their lives and smoking therefor becomes a symbol of wealth and pseudo-control over their destiny, ironically.

Other than that, I honestly don’t know why they’d cling to a habit that has zero benefits fot them in their position. Alcohol abuse is also rife in these communities, both black and white, understandably.

Hopelessness and poverty is a match made in hell and these people are living proof.

It helps as an outsider to stay objective and instead of judging the poor for their lack of insight, I think we should stop blaming the victim and start helping them – smoking is just a symptom of a greater evil at work here.

      • I find your response to be very judgemental.
These people have lossed everything in their lives. They seemed to have lost all hope. Although tobacco calms the nerves by relieving the craving that it has created; who are you to cricize their smoking? If Christ were speaking to you, He’d probably say to you “You hypocrite! You complain of a gnat [poor people smoking],but you swallow a camel [you do nothing to help fight the problem that has caused their poverty.]

        September 27, 2012 at 5:23 pm

    • out of all that… you latte sipping wankers have a problem with people smoking? @ astro4mare – “becomes a symbol of wealth and pseudo-control over their destiny” – you sir, are a tool. Too much time spent de-constructing nothing. Soooo many wasted University dollars.

Why attack these poor white people and probably one of the few sources of enjoyment they have?

Long-term health consequences – you people must be mad (or delusional lefties) to think that when someone is living in poverty, the status of their health 10 years from now even matters. Smoking kills – yeah so do a lot of things – lets just ban them all. Then we can all live to 160.

If smoking kills, then great, I’m looking forward to it.

Old age is overrated, enjoy your incontinence and having your arse wiped by that 21 year old male nurse.

    • If you look at countries in southern Europe for instance the people there smoke more than in western Europe. There are numerous studies that link poverty and smoking. Like one study done by the world bank. Although one tends to ask the question that how is it possible that they smoke (it is expensive) and their kids go without shoes? I think that not being in that situation one should not judge and condone. These people due to their situation has not only financial problems but emotionally they are broken. They have reached the bottom end of the ladder and we should not judge them as we are not in their position. If I seem to be a bit negative towards you it is not meant to be so, merely trying to understand it for myself. I do feel so sorry for them and it is heartbreaking.

    • So what if you know anything about poverty you will know that it is a Crutch – shame on you

      Sait Likitis

      March 27, 2014 at 12:20 pm

      • Sait, in some cases and in some affluent countries, poverty is indeed used as a tool by unemployed people to abuse the welfare systems, but in South Africa, white poverty is a well-orchestrated government-induced tool of genocide.

The racist job-reservation legislation barring capable and skilled people from contributing to the economy is a blatant human rights abuse and in time will be recognized as such, as the international community wake up to this fact.

What the ANC is doing here, is emulating their erstwhile foe, by copying their racism under the guise of transformation. Many people are waking up to this realisation and the real intent of this regime, as the effect of their intervention is beginning to show signs of great despair and human suffering in a very well-defined section of the South-African population, and the people I’m referring to are my people, the Boer-Afrikaner nation.

If you read this blog regularly, you’ll come to be convinced about the facts in time, as I have over the years of collecting the stories, data and legislation, and the effect it has on this community.

You can however help us to change all of this by spreading the word and making people understand that two wrongs don’t make a right, but is the cause of new human rights abuses.

Ask yourself whether we (as a country) can afford to be demonized again by the international community for treating people like lesser beings and making them suffer, because you just don’t like them.

Boer-Afrikaners are human too, and by extension deserving of basic human rights, or do you disagree?

    WHITE GAL

    October 15, 2012 at 9:25 am

    • Affirmative action took most of their jobs. Get to know the truth. There is no work for an unskilled white person in South Africa. The government did do that to them. None the less the Afrikaner has seen much worse. The British put them and camps and executed them in an attempt at genocide. It’s true look up both. The Afrikaner will survive and in time be happier. What I don’t understand is why rich Afrikaners are not taking care of their own. Very Calvinist of them if you ask me. The Baptist were inspired by them BTW. They also used the bible to promote slavery, racism, and homophobia. They also don’t want to come off a greedy dime. You call people who want to work lazy, because it confirms to what you were programmed to think, and leaves money in the pockets of the most greedy. It is possible that you are smart enough to research this and be able to think deep enough to understand it, but chances are you won’t. Does god want you to condemn those who cannot do for themselves? Really does god wish white men to own others? Really are all blacks on earth stupid and need to be controlled? Really did god not make gays love people of the same sex? If you still think, those people need to suffer because they are lazy, you need to understand justice would have you be in their place. Afrikaners are not known to be lazy they never have been so GET TO KNOW THE TRUTH!

      • The only white (not really) rich South African’s are jews and you will have to wait a very long time before they help anyone. If only the roles could be reversed in Palestine. Hey, maybe they soon will be!

      • The Afrikaner’s/ Boer’s turned a part of Africa that was so barren as to be uninhabitable into a prosperous 1st world food exporting country. Joe Slobo (a jew) was instrumental in turning the world against SA. Blacks were lining up to get into SA, they never had it so good anywhere else in Africa. Now you see how the whites were repaid. The only criticism I have for the whites is that they gave their home away. I knew this would happen, why on earth didn’t they?

  4. A White Gal, typical crap from someone with no racial identity or solidarity. It will happen to you one day and I certainly hope you don’t expect any pity or help from your fellow whites and you know the minorities will just as soon kill you as help you, so remember you said this. Are you in South Africa? Have you been there? If not, then maybe you need to shut your ignorant mouth. You’re probably the kind of white person who cries about how unfair life is for poor minorities and donates and spends your time volunteering to help them but you won’t do the same for your own race. YOU are disgusting and I hope you get EXACTLY what you want for these people when you are down and out…..scorn, derision and contempt. Although that’s more than you deserve.

    • ^ This inter-racial stuff won’t happen to me or mine, but what you say is correct. I met a middle aged woman in my shop here in the u.s. several years ago. I saw an extremely morose look about her. Thanks “liberals” you have ruined a great country and its people. Why am I not hearing the same uproar about the total overt apartheid in Palestine from you?? lol. You garbage.

  5. Nicotine is often used as a appetite suppressant in place of food to curb hunger. It is not a choice in most cases. There is also a socialization phenomenon of commonality as food is often served communally too.
